CD-ROM containing details of the Preventing Typhoon Damage to Housing project in Central Vietnam and Champlain Housing Trust, USA, winners of the 2008 World Habitat Awards and hosts to the international study visits that took place in 2009.
Compiled in English and Spanish, this CD-ROM contains details of both projects as well as additional technical documents, videos, images and the perspectives of those who took part in the study visits, offering a further insight into the programmes.
The purpose of the international study visits was to provide an in-depth understanding of the practical techniques, training methods and project management approaches used in the award winning programmes as well as providing the opportunity for the exchange of experiences.
Through the Preventing Typhoon Damage to Housing programme in Central Vietnam, Development Workshop works with families and local governments in Vietnam to apply key principles of safe storm and flood resistant construction to both existing and new homes, as well as to community buildings. Over 1,900 typhoon-resistant houses have been provided to date through the programme, with many other households choosing to apply the techniques.
Established in Burlington, Vermont in 1984, the Champlain Housing Trust (CHT) is the largest community land trust (CLT) in the USA. It creates innovative, secure and perpetually affordable housing opportunities for low-income people in Burlington and the surrounding areas. CLTs are community-based, not-for-profit organisations that own, develop and manage land and property for the benefit of the local community.
